March Book Haul

Hello everyone, welcome to my March Book Haul! Despite being quite restrained in the first two months of the year, this month I may have made a few more purchases! You have to treat yourself! I did also get some books for review from publishers too!

Here we go!

Review Copies

I received these three fabulous books from various publishers in March. F**k I Think I’m Dying by Claire Eastham is a non-fiction memoir about living with panic and anxiety. As someone who has anxiety, I am always interested in mental health memoirs, and I think this one is going to be very insightful! The past 6 months of so seem to have been very full of Adrian Tchaikovsky, he has another book published in May, Shards of Earth, which I was lucky enough to get a proof copy of from Tor Uk! What Beauty There Is by Cory Anderson is a YA novel published by Penguin. I will be a part of the blog tour for this novel in April!

I was very lucky to 3 awesome fantasy novels from Orbit books this month! For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten is a Little Red Riding Hood retelling which looks so good! This looks like a brilliant dark fantasy. I also got a proof of Son of the Storm by Suyi Davies Okungbowa! This is the first in a new fantasy series from this author about forbidden magic and power. The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne was the third book I received from Orbit. This is a brand new dragon novel with such a lovely cover!

Another two books I received from publishers this month was these two! The Boy Who Made Everyone Laugh is a hilarious children’s book which is Waterstones Children’s book of the month in March. The other book I received from the publisher was Felix Ever After by Karen Callender. This is a wonderful novel about a transgender teen who is grappling with identity and falling in love.

I was also lucky enough to receive copies of Monstrous Devices and The Shadow Arts from the publisher for the blog tour in April. I have had my eye on Monstrous Devices for a long time, and when the opportunity came to read it and the sequel, I jumped at it! These are action packed children’s books, featuring robots and magic!

Books I Purchased

I did buy quite a few books this month, from a wide variety of genres! The Sad Ghost Club by Lize Meddings is a graphic novel about mental health and a sad ghost. I love the illustrations in it, and I’ve heard a lot of good things about it! Cogheart has been on my TBR list for a while, its a steampunk inspired kids book which I just know I’m going to love. Next is a dystopian novel which I haven’t heard much about called Last Ones Left Alive. It was described as a better version of The Road by Cormac McCarthy, a book I dislike immensely, so we’ll see! The Fallen Children is a teen sci-fi novel about a group if girls who all wake up pregnant after a mysterious event. I love the sound of this, spooky and creepy, perfect! Last in this wee group is one of my most anticipated releases of 2021, Show Us Who You Are by my fave Elle McNicoll. This is a kids science fiction novel featuring neurodivergent characters, and I cannot wait to pick it up!

I have had my eye on The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu for a wee while, and it finally made its way into my basket this month! I also purchased The Haunting of Aveline Jones, a children’s horror book which I have seen so much good stuff about online. Year One by Nora Roberts is another fantasy novel which I picked up this month, this is the same Nora Roberts who writes the historical and general fiction. I’m intrigued as to how she will be as a fantasy writer! Continuing the fantasy theme, I also picked up Gardens of the Moon, the first book in an epic fantasy series which looks brilliant! The fantasy continues with a sequel this time: A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab. This is a fantasy series set in an alternative London which I read book 1 of last month!

This is the final group I promise! I picked up another fantasy, Runemarks by Joanne M. Harris. I follow her on twitter, and I keep meaning to read her books, so I picked one up in preparation. The Polar Bear Explorers Club by Alex Bell is a children’s adventure book set in a polar landscape, and I love the sound of it so much! Next up is Gut Feelings by C.G. Moore, a book I haven’t seen talked about much, about a teenage boy coming to terms with his chronic illness and growing up. Next up is another teen book, this is The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner, the first in a fantasy series which is very well known in the US, not quite so well known in the UK. My Goldsboro SFF club book this month was a beautiful edition of The Shadow in the Glass, with sprayed edges! The final book for this haul is by one of my favourite authors, Robin Hobb! Ship of Magic is the first in The Liveship Traders, my next series to read by Hobb.

And there we are! That is my rather large March book haul. This doesn’t include ebooks and audiobooks, although I was pretty restrained with them this month!

What did your March book haul look like? Do you have a problem like me?

Happy reading!
