Hello and welcome to my stop on the Monstrous Devices blog tour! Thank you to Rock the Boat for having me as part of the tour!

So first off what is the book about?…

When twelve-year-old Alex receives an old tin robot in the post, the note from his grandfather reads: “This one is special”. But as strange events start occurring around him, it doesn’t take Alex long to suspect that the small toy is more than special – it might also be deadly.

Just as things are getting out of hand, Alex’s grandfather arrives, whisking him away into a world of strange, macabre magic. From Paris to Prague, they flee across snowy Europe in a quest to unravel the riddle of the little robot. Will Alex work out the robot’s secrets before it falls into the wrong, wicked hands?

This novel originally came out in hardback last year, and I have had my eye on it since it arrived in the shop! When I saw the blog tour was being organised I jumped at the chance to be a part of it! This honestly looked like the perfect combination of action and scary robots that I knew I was going to love!

I am so so happy to say that this book did not disappoint! I loved this novel so much, the robots were creepy, the plot was mysterious, and I couldn’t put it down until I knew everything. Although some of my questions were answered, a lot of them remain unanswered, which I found frustrating but understandable! There is a sequel which I am lucky enough to already have in my possession which I know is going to be just as good!!

Alex is the main character of our story. His grandfather sends him an old robot in the mail, and strange events start to occur around him. I love Alex as a character, his disbelief and general annoyance at not understanding what was going on was very relatable to me! He was funny and clever and I am a big fan of him! His relationship with his Grandfather was so sweet, it was built on trust and love, and I adored the relationship and how they cared for each other. I won’t lie I did find his grandfather very frustrating at times, he was so vague and really kept Alex and the reader in the dark. But I’m willing to forgive this flaw!

Our book bad guys were excellent. They were well-developed and carried a real sense of menace with them, it was quite frightening at times. They were mysterious, and we go through a whole range of emotions with Alex as he tries to figure out exactly what is going on. We are never sure where we stand. We as readers are left to puzzle it out, and honestly by the end I still didn’t know!

Overall I really loved this book, it was a perfect high stakes adventure novel, featuring robots which is honestly the perfect combo for me!
