The Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

A Cas photo 2

It’s time for Rachel to do another tag ages after everyone else!! Today’s tag is the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag. Here we go!

  1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019?

I have read a few brilliant books this year so far, and to pick a favourite is so hard! I’ll go with Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo simply because it has started my obsession with that series!

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019?

I’ve only read one sequel this year so far, so it’s by default the best! It’s Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to?

Oh wow I have so many!! But I’ll go with one that I’m excited to get into as soon as possible, and that I’ve heard loads of good things about, and that’s The Binding by Bridget Collins.

4. Most anticipated release for second half of 2019?

I have quite a few books I’m excited for, I made a post about it here But my most exciting release is probably The Secret Commonwealth by Philip Pullman.

5. Biggest disappointment?

I recently picked up The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg but I actually had to DNF it as I just couldn’t read it. I was so excited for this novel, and it did disappoint me a lot!

6. Biggest surprise?

I’m not sure what the biggest surprise would be. Perhaps my recent interest with Russia and Russian literature might be the biggest surprise of the year for me! I have enjoyed a number of books, both fiction and non-fiction by Russian authors, including Chernobyl by Serhii Plokhy and Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin.

7. New favourite author?

I’m going to echo one of my previous answers for this, but Leigh Bardugo is a new author that I have discovered this year, and is definitely one of my new favourites.

8. Newest fictional crush?

I don’t really have crushes on book characters, so I don’t really have an answer for this question. I did love the characters in Six of Crows, so maybe one of those.

9. Newest favourite character?

I’m going to say either Camille from Enchantee or Shifa from Where the River Runs Gold.

10. Book that made you cry?

I cried while reading Crooked Kingdom, so this is an easy one!

11. Book that made you happy?

This is an interesting question, because a lot of the reason that books make me happy is the situation or mood that I am in when I read it. So for this question I’m going to say The Girl Who Speaks Bear by Sophie Anderson because I read it while sitting outside in the sun on one of my days off.

12. Favourite book to movie adaptation you saw this year?

This might not count for this question because it’s technically a tv show, but Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman is so good. The book is amazing and hilarious, and the tv show does not disappoint!

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year?

I’m going to say my review of A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes because I loved writing it, and its done well on social media! You can check it here

14. Most beautiful book you bought so far this year?

I’m not sure what my answer to this is. I have read a lot of books! Maybe Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver which is a beautiful hardback with a stunning book jacket.

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

I mean, where do I start?!? I want to re-read His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman before the new book comes out in October, and basically all the books that I keep being sent for review!!

I tag anyone who hasn’t done this tag and feels like it.

Happy reading!
