Popular Fantasy Books I Haven’t Read (yet!)
As a self-titled fantasy lover, there are still some classic and popular fantasy books that I just haven’t read. Whether that be because they are intimidatingly long, or I just haven’t plucked up the courage, here’s my list of shame! (Not really, never be ashamed of what you have and haven’t read!)
The Wheel of Time Series

This is a foundational fantasy series for the genre, and although I own the first book, I have never picked it up. I think it's a combination of size and length to be honest. This series is huuuuge and each book is so long, its just a large commitment. However, I have heard such good things about the world building and the plot development over the series, I know I will enjoy it. Buy from Waterstones here
Any Brandon Sanderson

This is another hugely popular and foundational fantasy author which I have never read. Sanderson has written so many books, and I do own quite a few of them, but I've just never picked them up. I reckon its a combo of again them being huge, and my own reluctance to start any more series! But I have only heard great things about this authors work, so I think I'll have to go for it soon. Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin

This is another hugely famous and influential fantasy author that I just haven't read. I don't actually own any of Le Guin's work, although I have almost bought the Earthsea quartet a few times at work! I have heard some mixed things about these books, some people have told me that they are a bit dry, but as one of the first famous female authors of fantasy, I feel that I must give her a go! The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

We have finally reached an author whom I have actually read before! I read and loved The City We Became by N.K Jemisin in 2020, and I've only heard great things about The Fifth Season. As it was published first, I am determined to get to it, it is loved by so many readers! Buy from Waterstones here
The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie

Another intimidating series alert! The Blade Itself is the first in a trilogy which forms a part of a larger world that Abercrombie has created. I love the look of these books, they look dark and twisted, I'm just a little scared of the time I need to invest in the series as a whole! Buy from Waterstones here
The Magician’s Guild by Trudi Canavan

This is another fantasy author who has a very large backlist of titles. I think they all look really good, I just haven't plucked up the courage to begin yet. The world-building and magic system is brilliant so I've been told, and I know I will enjoy them! Buy from Waterstones here
The Black Prism by Brent Weeks

Brent Weeks is a fantasy author I haven't been aware of for quite as long as the other authors on this list, but since reading other posts, and online, he is considered a very popular fantasy author. He has a number of series, all epic fantasies, and I've heard only good things about them! Buy from Waterstones here
Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri

The final book on this list is a recently completed series inspired by medieval India. I have heard lots of good things about this series, I love a medieval inspired fantasy series, and this one promises good things! Buy from Waterstones here
There we are, these are 8 popular fantasy books I haven’t read yet! Hopefully I can get to these books soon, maybe I’ll do an updated post next year!
