I love books about pirates, so when I heard this was going to be published I jumped at the chance to get my hands on a copy. 

Marianne is the main character, she is the daughter of the Viper, the most deadly pirate on the seas. She discovers that to save the Twelve Isles and her friends she must defeat her father and become the Viper herself.

I enjoyed this novel, the plot is blisteringly fast, you never get a chance to breathe throughout. The action begins on page one, and doesn’t give up until the final page. However, sometimes the author tried to explain a lot of information and develop characters in chunks which did make the narrative read a little clunky at times, and did break up the action and the flow of the novel.

The characters were ok in this novel, but none of them have made it to my favourite characters. Marianne is the main character, she is feisty and passionate, but she was also quite irritating at times, and her lack of responsibility for her actions and the consequences really irritated me!

The group of side characters weren’t quite as irritating, and I enjoyed reading about Bronn and Grace. The scenes between them and Marianne were fun to read.

There are some touches of romance through the novel, which were well written by the author, and created a nice contrast with the action packed nature of the rest of the novel. 

Overall I liked this novel, it was fast-paced and the plot twisted and turned along nicely, but I was a little disappointed by not falling in love with the characters as I had hoped!
