My Books of the Year 2022

Hello and Happy New Year! As it’s the start of a new year, I thought we should look back on my 2022 reading. Welcome to my book of the year 2022 post!
Some Stats
I had a pretty good reading year in 2022, my challenge was set for 100, and I managed 101. Admittedly there was a little rush at the end to reach that target, but I got there! This worked out as 31,427 pages, which feels like a lot! I averaged 3 days to read a book, which feels about right for me.
My most read genres were Fantasy, Middle Grade and YA, which perfectly encapsulates my reading taste! No surprises there!
My Books of the Year 2022
Let’s chat about my favourite books of 2022!

I was so excited to get an early copy of this novel from Scholastic. I love Patrice Lawrence, and I love middle grade mysteries, so I knew this would be a favourite. In a historical London filled with magic, we follow Marisee and Robert as they chase clues to try and save the city, and the world! It’s action-packed, and the characters are brilliant!

I had been eagerly waiting for this to be released. I watched a few interviews with Jennette McCurdy prior to reading it where she spoke about her relationship with her mum, so I knew what I was going into. Listening to the audiobook really added to my enjoyment. Jennette narrates it, and it makes for a very moving and funny listen.

If you’ve been here a while you will know that I adored Amari and the Night Brothers when I read it, and I have been eagerly awaiting the sequel since I finished it! This book did not disappoint at all. Amari is a brilliant main character, and the action is just as exciting and well-written as in the first book. One of my favourite middle grade series for sure!

Babel has featured on many people’s best of 2022 lists, and with good reason! I adored this book, and have been pushing it on people since I read it. This is a historical fantasy novel set in Oxford at the University. We follow a group of characters as they learn to use words and language to create magic. This is a dark novel, but its so good!

Another fantasy favourite, City of Stairs is the first book in the Divine Cities series. This is a fantasy set in a middle-Eastern inspired world, and it features magic, giants and gods. The characters are perfect, and I cannot wait to continue on with the series in 2023.

How To Be True is technically the second book in the How To Be series, but as each book features a different main character, I was able to jump straight into this one when I received it from the publisher. This is a wonderful novel of friendship and adventure, all set in the wonderful city of Paris! A joy to read.

The final book on my list is one of the last books I read in 2022. The Facemaker is a non-fiction novel about surgeon Harold Gilles, who was a pioneer in facial reconstructive surgery during WWI. This was a moving and at times really sad story, but overall hopeful as we are told how Gillies helped hundreds of men to not just survive but thrive after being dreadfully injured in the war.
