June TBR

Hello everyone, welcome to another TBR post! I can’t quite believe that we will be half way through 2021 soon, it seems to have both dragged by and flown past at the same time! Just for a change I am bringing you a very optimistic June TBR post, featuring quite a few review copies, and some books that I am just hyped to read! Here we go!

This is a fantasy novel which I have been very excited for since it was first announced. I am super excited to have a digital proof of this novel, and I fully plan on jumping into it as soon as possible. This novel is set during the Ming dynasty in 14th Century China, and I am so excited to be transported away by this novel. She Who Became the Sun is published on the 22nd of July.

Another book that I have desperately waiting for and was lucky enough to be sent a digital proof is this one! Look at that cover, how could I say no to that cover?!? This is a quirky supernatural romance about Ash, who has to decide whether to become a soul Reaper after dying in a car crash or see her first love Poppy again. A queer supernatural romance?? Yes please! This is published on the 22nd of July too!

I must admit I was first drawn in by the title of this novel! I love a darkly humorous novel, and this looks to be exactly that. We meet Grace, who has calmly and quite happily killed 6 members of her family. I am very intrigued by this novel! I love Bella as a journalist and her memoir Jog On is one of my favourites, so I am excited to see what she has created. This is published on the 22 of July too (what a busy release day!)

This book is described as Sabrina the Teenage Witch meets Sex Education, and if that doesn't make me want to read it nothing will!! Jessie moves to a new school, and suddenly develops superpowers!! This honestly looks like an awesome YA novel!! Hexed is published on the 8th of July.

I was very lucky to be sent a copy of The Baby Is Mine from Quick Reads to celebrate their 15 year anniversary! If you are not aware, Quick Reads are a collection of short novels to help make reading more accessible to adults. They are written to be easier to read than full sized novels, and are reasonably priced at £1 each! I love Quick Reads books, and I am very excited for this one!

The first children's book on my TBR for June is Children of the Quicksands. I was lucky enough to receive a proof copy from the publisher Chicken House! This is a fantasy adventure following Simi who goes to visit her grandmother in a remote Nigerian village. The novel is packed with myths, legends and secrets, and I just know I'm going to love it! It is published on the 3rd of July.

Changing the tone of this TBR completely, the next book I hope to read is The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig. This is a spooky looking horror novel about a family who return to their hometown and to the dark past that they are still haunted by. I've never read anything by Wendig, but I am very intrigued by this one! This is published on the 20th of July.

Another children's book on my TBR for June is When the Sky Falls by Phil Earle. This is an adventure novel set during World War II about a boy called Joseph who is tasked with protecting Adonis the gorilla. I am so intrigued by this, I love kids books with animals in them! This book is published on the 3rd of June.

This is a historical fiction novel about the life of Mary Wollstonecraft, the mother of Mary Shelley, and the feminist icon. This novel charts her life across Europe after the birth of Mary Shelley, and her fight against the constraints and restrictions of the time. I am very much looking forward to this novel, something slightly different from what I normally read, but it looks so good! This novel is published on the 17th of June.

The Kingdoms is another book that I have had on my anticipated releases list since it was announced. I love Natasha Pulley's writing, the magic and imagination of the writing is amazing, and I have no doubts that this one will be amazing too! This book was published on the 27th of May.

Another historical fiction novel in my June TBR, this time its set in Pompeii, and reimagines the lives of women who lived and worked in the city. I love the feminist retellings that are so popular at the moment, and I am very excited to see what this one is like. I also love this cover a lot!! This book was published on the 13th of May.

This is the first in a fantasy series that I am very hyped to read! It has rebels and magic, and basically all the elements I love in fantasy novels! I can't wait to read this one, and the following books in the series.

I have owned The Twisted Tree for over a year now, and I have always thought it would be excellent, I've just never picked it up!! Hopefully by including it in my June TBR I will pick it up and actually read it. I have heard excellent things from others about this book, its spooky and creepy, and I am very excited!

Another book I've had on my TBR pile for a long time is The Wren Hunt by Mary Watson. This was a book that I saw someone talking about online, and was very tempted by the beautiful cover too. This is a YA novel which is described as dark and eerie, which I know I'm going to enjoy!

This is another book that has sat languishing on my shelves for a while, I actually received a copy from the publishers, and I just never got around to reading it! This is a teen thriller about four siblings who are trying to discover the dark truth about their family. I actually have never read any of McManus's books so I'm really excited to start one!

And breathe!! There are all the books I am hoping to read in my June TBR. I have probably been too optimistic, but what can I say, I like a challenge!

What are you reading in June?
