August Wrap Up: A real mixed month, some new favourites and some disappointments!

Call of the Bone Ships by RJ Barker.

August started off really strongly with a 5 star read! This is the second book in the Tide Child trilogy, an amazing fantasy series set on ships made of the bones of giant sea creatures! I love this trilogy and I’m trying to savour it by not reading it all at once!

Appointment with Death by Agatha Christie

I’ve been slowly working my way through Agatha Christie’s books, and I listened to this one on audiobook in August. I liked it, I wasn’t familiar with the plot so all the twists and turns were new which is always fun!

Peril on The Atlantic by A.M. Howell

I was lucky enough to be a part of the blog tour for this novel in August. This is a fun new series of mysteries set on historical ships, which is a very interesting idea for a series! Check out my blog tour post here

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

I watched the movie in August and loved it! Its so sweet and cosy, and I’ll definitely be rewatching it! I immediately got the book on my kindle to read, and it was just as good! As sweet and cosy as the movie was!

He Who Drowned The World by Shelley Parker-Chan

This is the sequel to She Who Became the Sun, a brilliant fantasy novel that I read in 2021 and loved! This is the second and final book in the duology, and it was a brilliant way to end, with some real twists and turns through it!

Shiver Point by Gabriel Dylan

I was lucky enough to get a proof copy of Shiver Point from the publisher, and I was very excited to read it. This is a middle grade horror novel where a group of unlikely heroes have to save their town from aliens!

Super-Infinite: The Transformations of John Donne by Katherine Rundell

This was my second audiobook of August, and I’m really glad I chose to have it read to me. This is a biography of the poet and writer John Donne, and its really interesting but it was also quite dry in places, so the audio version was the best way to absorb it.

The Quick by Lauren Owen

This was a random pick up from my tBR pile, I had purchased it after a friend recommended it to me a few years ago. This is a really interesting historical novel about vampires, and it does have a slight queer romance but not a great one which was a little disappointing!

Frostheart by Jamie Littler

This was another random pick up at the end of August. I have had a proof of this novel on my TBR pile since 2019, and never got around to it! Despite this, I knew I would’ve really liked it, but I just never got around to reading it! I liked this novel, its a fun middle grade fantasy novel, and the start to a very interesting series!
