Huge thank you to Kaleidoscope Book Tours for having me on the blog tour for Alex Neptune, Pirate Hunter, and to Usborne for sending me a copy of the book!

I have never read this series, and actually although I own another book by Owen, I haven’t read anything by him! I plan on rectifying this soon, because I really enjoyed this story a lot!

Alex Neptune, Pirate Hunter is the second book in the Alex Neptune series, after Alex Neptune, Dragon Thief. I do think you could probably pick this book up without having read the first book and still be able to follow the plot quite well. However you get a nice bit of character development when you read them in order, and its nice to visit Haven Bay again and meet up with the characters again!

This book follows Alex, who has discovered that he has magical powers that allow him to control the sea, and connect with a giant magical water dragon. In this book, Alex and friends must also battle a pirate ship that attacks Haven Bay, desperately searching for the dragon egg. Alex must find the egg first!

I really enjoyed this book a lot! It’s a shorter chapter book, which would be perfect for readers younger than the 9-12 category, and would also be lovely read aloud. There are some brilliant illustrations which I always enjoy too! Alex and his friends are a great group of characters, and their friendship is lovely to read. They always work together to solve the problems, and each friend has a different skill that they bring to the adventure to help save the day.

This book also involves 3 tasks, which are hinted at with very vague clues, which I really enjoyed. The mystery really kept the suspense going through the novel, and definitely kept the pace quick! There are plenty twists and turns too, with some characters’ betrayals which was a little sad for me!!

Overall I would highly recommend the Alex Neptune books. They are shorter chapter books, are very readable and so action packed! A new series that I shall be continuing to read. Now I just need to find where I put my other David Owen book!!

Thanks for reading!
