Easter Readathon 2020 Wrap Up

Hello everyone!

I took part in the wonderful Kate’s Easter Readathon this weekend, from Friday morning to Monday evening of the Easter weekend I read as much as I could! If you saw my previous post, I had a loose TBR set out for the Readathon, and I’m going to let you all know if I managed to stick to the TBR!

Let’s get stuck in!

So The Girl Who Came Out of The Woods by Emily Barr was my first chosen book for the Readathon, and this was going to fulfil 2 prompts, a book with spring vibes and a book of new beginnings. Unfortunately I had to DNF this book, I couldn’t get through it. I thought it was an interesting premise, but I didn’t care for the characters, nor did I really care about what was happening either. I’m sad about this because I really wanted to enjoy it, I thought it was a great idea for a novel, but it just didn’t work for me.

It is a book about a girl called Arty who has lived her entire life in a commune cut off from civilisation, when a terrible accident forces her to leave the safety of her world to enter the real world and the unknown.

It would have been perfect for filling 2 prompts for the Readathon, but sadly it just wasn’t to be!

Never mind, on to the next book!

After the disappointment of having to DNF my first book, I quickly moved on to book 2. The Little Snake by A.L. Kennedy is a short fable about the snake from The Little Prince. This book fitted nicely into prompt 3, a book under 250 pages.

I really enjoyed this book, I have never actually read anything by A.L. Kennedy, but I really loved her writing style, and I will definitely look into other books of hers. This book was a good read, I gave it 3.5/5 stars, it is a short read, and I do struggle to get fully immersed into shorter books, so that’s the reason it didn’t rate any higher for me. The book was an enjoyable read, and made me feel much more optimistic about the Readathon!!

My next book was Dangerous Remedy by Kat Dunn. I have had my eye on this novel for quite a while, it’s advertised as a French Revolution novel with a f/f romance and a found family trope, which is all of my favourite things, so I had high hopes! I am so happy to say that this novel did not disappoint at all!! It was incredible!

I loved every single element of this novel, the characters, the setting, the relationships, the drama! I will have a full review up closer to the publication date, expect lots of gushing about how much I loved this book!

I went completely off my TBR for my 3rd book, I decided on a whim to pick up Nocturna by Maya Motayne. This is a YA fantasy novel about a common thief and a Prince who must join forces to defeat an evil magic which is possessing a man. Unsurprisingly there may be some romantic tension between the thief and the Prince! After finishing Dangerous Remedy I was just in the mood for another good juicy YA fantasy, and this one ticked all the boxes for me.

The 4th and last book I finished during the Readathon was Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I have been meaning to pick up this novel for a long time, and I decided to listen to the audiobook. I enjoyed this novel, it was a dark fantasy which I liked. I wouldn’t say I am obsessed with this series, I will read the next book, but I’m not rushing out to get it. I am a wee bit disappointed about this, as I had heard so many great things about the series, and so many people seemed totally obsessed with it, I had high hopes.
