Down the TBR Hole | Week 4

Tuesday, 7 August 2018
This is a blogging meme created by Lia at Lost in a Story. The aim is this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
One of my 2018 resolutions is to reduce my TBR pile, both physically, and the digital one I have created on Goodreads, and this meme will hopefully help!!

The Glass Demon- Helen Grant
This is described as a novel that bridges the worlds of Grimm fairytales and Angela Carter's adult fairytales, and those are right up my street!

Verdict: Keep

The Adoration of Jenna Fox- Mary E Pearson
I like the cover of this novel, and actually the blurb sounds quite interesting, but honestly I just don't think I will ever actually read it.

Verdict: Go

Never Let Me Go- Kazuo Ishiguro
This is a modern classic, and I definitely want to read it at some point!

Verdict: Keep

Crank- Ellen Hopkins
I am intrigued by the style of writing that this novel uses, but I just don't think I'll ever actually read it.

Verdict: Go

If I Stay- Gayle Forman
This is one of these YA books that almost everyone has read, it was huge when it was first published, and is still pretty popular today, but it's a YA contemporary romance, and that isn't my favourite genre so I think I'll give it a miss.

Verdict: Go

The Forest of Hands and Teeth- Carrie Ryan
This is YA zombies and it sounds interesting so I'll stick with it!

Verdict: Keep

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour- Morgan Matson
This sounds like a nice summery YA read so I'll leave it in my TBR for the moment.

Verdict: Keep

Small Island- Andrea Levy
This novel won the Women's Prize for Fiction in 2004 (then the Orange Prize) and it's a novel I want to get to at some point.

Verdict: Keep

Under the Greenwood Tree- Thomas Hardy
This is supposed to be a pleasant romantic Victorian novel, but I'm not convinced. I don't particularly like Hardy's novels, but I'm tempted to give this one the benefit of the doubt.

Verdict: Keep

The Woodlanders- Thomas Hardy
Another Hardy novel, another romance. I'll leave it on the pile for the moment, but who knows whether I'll get rid of it soon!

Verdict: Keep

Have you read any of these novels? Do you agree with me or am I making a mistake?
