June/July Book Haul

Saturday, 2 August 2014
I made the decision not to buy any books for a couple of months to try and reduce my TBR pile. I bought one book in June, but thought it was pretty pointless to include it in a haul all by itself. I received an Amazon voucher this month and I decided to buy myself some books with it!
The non-fiction book I bought in June was The Puzzle of Left-handedness by Rik Smits. I just spotted this book in Waterstones, and being left handed I thought it looked like an interesting read. It looks at the history and prejudices associated with left handers, and looks like a really good read.
The first book I bought in July was The Giver by Lois Lowry, which is a novel I have wanted to read for a good few years. I think it's a dystopian novel of sorts, and it has been made into a movie which is due for release later this year, starring Jeff Bridges and Taylor Swift.
The next two books I bought were both by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I recently finished reading Careless People by Sarah Churchwell which was a very interesting book about Fitzgerald and The Great Gatsby. After reading it, I wanted to pick up some of Fitzgerald's other work. I got The Beautiful and Damned and This Side of Paradise.
The next book I picked up was The Young Hornblower Omnibus by C.S. Forester. These novels were made into an ITV series starring Ioan Gruffudd. I first discovered these books through Tumblr, when I saw a post about the tv show, which you can check out on Youtube. This omnibus contains Mr Midshipman Hornblower, Lieutenant Hornblower and Hornblower and the Hotspur.
The last book I got was Allegiant by Veronica Roth which is the last book in the Divergent Trilogy. I own the first two books in this series, although I've only read Divergent, I've yet to read Insurgent. I wanted to pick up Allegiant when it had the same cover as the rest of the series, and when I got this voucher I decided to pick it up.
